“Long Island Iced-Z” Talks Potential WWE Comeback

Is Zack Ryder returning to the WWE? Ryder (aka Matt Cardona) enjoyed a 15-year run in the WWE until his 2020 release. Since then, Cardona has found success in IMPACT Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling, and the National Wrestling Alliance.

Would he think about returning to his long-time home despite his success? A fan asked Cardona about this via Twitter

Ryder tweeted back “Zack Ryder is dead. Long live Matt Cardona!” (H/T Sportskeeda)

Nonetheless, a recent interview with Metro’s Alistair McGeorge suggests Matt wouldn’t rule out a return somewhere down the road:

“I’m not trying to get back to WWE. But I’d lying if I said I never wanted to have a WrestleMania moment again, or I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden – of course I would. If Triple H called me right now, if I had that 203 – that’s the area code for Stamford, Connecticut – of course I’d pick up.But right now, I’m focusing on being the best me possible, and having the most fun possible, and making the most money possible.”

Ryder spent 15 years in the WWE, helping to get himself over with his wildly popular YouTube series, “Z! True Long Island Story.” Some fans believe that WWE management didn’t want to push him because he achieved his popularity on his own rather than through the WWE machine.

Zack Ryder enjoyed brief periods of success but nothing that matched the fans’ reactions to him. Indeed, some observers feel the WWE buried Ryder to dampen the fans’ enthusiasm toward him.

“The Most Successful I’ve Been in My Whole Wrestling Career”

Cardona seems happy with his current success and told McGeorge:

These past years have been the most successful I’ve been in my whole wrestling career. And that’s pretty crazy considering I don’t really work WWE or AEW, the top two companies,’ he said, although he can still acknowledge the path to get him to this point.

Whatever the case, Cardona said he appreciates how his time in the WWE contributed to his current success:

‘If I didn’t have WWE, I wouldn’t have had this canvas to paint on, so to speak. WWE set me up for that! And I’ve said since I left WWE, I’m not trying to prove anybody wrong, I don’t have a chip on my shoulder, I’m just trying to prove myself right and my fans right.’

It’s worth mentioning that the WWE has reportedly expressed interest in bringing Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green back to Titanland, which naturally will make some fans believe Cardona could join her.
