Will Fans Shell Out the Dough After the WWE Network?
Is the WWE reviving Its pay-per-view model? More to the point, is the promotion abandoning its premium live events (PLEs) on the Peacock streaming service and replacing them with the traditional pay-per-views PPVs)?
It’s a possibility Dave Meltzer recently reflected on while analyzing the WWE’s potential buyers and how they’ll handle things once they take over:
“Is it possible? Yes, it’s possible. If it’s Endeavor, because of UFC, I believe that they would absolutely look into the possibility of it. Because look at what they do with UFC and they’re similar businesses. I don’t believe it will be done. Now what could be done, the idea of pulling WrestleMania, or maybe WrestleMania, Royal Rumble (and) SummerSlam, and making them pay-per-views but keeping the other ones on the Network. I could see that.”

The idea of the WWE bringing back its pay-per-view model was discussed during rumors of a possible sale to ESPN in 2020.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter founder added:
I think that’s probably even the best way to do it, or maybe you even go with WrestleMania alone and that’s the only one. Because you’ve got two days of WrestleMania, maybe charge $40 a day, people will pay it because it’s WrestleMania.

Meltzer explained the current model cannot change until the WWE’s deal with Peacock is over. Nonetheless, it could eventually happen depending on who buys the WWE (assuming it’s sold).
