More Releases Coming?

The WWE releases Jeff Jarrett, at least according to a report from Brad Shepard. Shepard reported on his Patreon account that:

A source in WWE told me that Jeff Jarrett was let go by WWE. Jarrett was recently hired into a V.P. role running WWE’s live events.

H/T Ringside News

While no reporter has a perfect track record, Shepard has broken many stories and his work often finds its way to other sites without proper credit.

Jarrett recently served as the special referee at SummerSlam’s Undisputed Tag Team Championship Match between The Usos and their challengers, The Street Profits.

The 55-year-old second-generation wrestler recently teamed with Jay Lethal to take on Andrade and Ric Flair during “The Nature Boy’s” (alleged) final match.

Jarrett’s Relationship with the WWE

Jarrett was a prominent upper-card star in the WWF during the Attitude Era but he failed to break out into the main event.

Jeff Jarrett has had an interesting relationship with the WWE ever since he left the company in 1999 to jump to WCW under a cloud of controversy.

Wrestling lore has it that the departure was full of intrigue but there are conflicting accounts as to what happened.

One story has it that Jarrett (who was Intercontinental Champion at the time) refused to drop the belt at the WWF’s No Mercy pay-per-view as his contract had expired the day before. According to some stories, Jarrett demanded a cash payment to drop the belt.

The other side of the story is that the WWF owed Jarrett money and he wanted to make sure he was paid before jumping to arch-rival WCW.

Like most wrestling legends, there is so much hearsay surrounding this one that it’s difficult to tell just what happened. Jarrett claims he left on good terms

In 2018, the WWE inducted him into its Hall of Fame, a sign that the two sides had reconciled if there was any bad blood.

Rumor: WWE Releases Jeff Jarrett: More Releases Coming?

The recent rash of releases in NXT UK has some fans wondering whether the WWE is preparing to release talent in the United States.

As WrestleLamia recently discussed, the WWE may have to release some talent if Triple H continues bringing in released stars at the rate he’s going.

In Jarrett’s case, it could be a case of the new regime having someone else in mind for its live events.

Recall how Nick Khan made sweeping changes to the WWE’s corporate structure when he took over as WWE President. This move could be something similar now that Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan are co-CEO’s.
