WWE Having Buyer’s Remorse Over Title Unificiation
Is the WWE regretting Roman Reigns’ title run? While there’s little doubt the WWE is happy with “The Tribal Chief’s” Universal Championship reign, WrestleVotes is reporting the same can’t be said for the decision to have Roman Reigns unify the WWE and Universal Championship.
According to a source, the creative decision to unity the titles was with the understanding it would allow Roman Reigns to appear on BOTH shows more regularly.

…maybe that wasn’t the best decision.
WrestleLamia discussed the reasons why Reigns won the unified championship at WrestleMania XXXVIII and as we noted the night of the win, it seemed like a bad idea even then.
The Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns title unification bout was a classic example of hot-shot booking as the WWE fed several main eventers on RAW to Brock Lesnar when he won the WWE Championship at this year’s Elimination Chamber.
This of course was to create a dream match at the 2022 “Showcase of the Immortals” with “The Beast” and “The Head of the Table” battling in a winner-takes-all match.
It’s likely the WWE believed Roman appearing on RAW and SmackDown would benefit both shows (as would having the Usos defend the tag team titles on both brands). If so, why did the WWE negotiate a contract where Reigns is making limited appearances?
WWE Regretting Reigns’ Title Run? What to Do Now
Currently, Reigns is believed to be out for most of the summer, with the possible exception of SummerSlam and Clash at the Castle. Reigns was originally supposed to wrestle at Money in the Bank but that was changed. WrestleLamia recently reported on the real reason why Reigns is defending his Universal Championship on SmackDown rather than at Money in the Bank.
Dave Meltzer recently commented on Reigns’ absence:
The thing with the championship now, with Roman, is that he’s around some, but he’s not around a lot and this making one champion now, and then Roman, you know, making his deal where he’s never around is kind of weak when it comes to the championship, you know?”
H/T Ringside News
While there is speculation the WWE might take the belt on Reigns, that would go against the rumored plans of keeping the belt on Reigns for a long time. The only situation where the belt might be taken off Reigns would be if he was physically unable to wrestle.
