2023 Payback Headlined by World Heavyweight Championship Match
Time for your WWE Payback real-time results. The WWE has brought its Payback event back after a three-year hiatus. Check back as WrestleLamia continues updating the results for tonight’s show.
Steel Cage Match: Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus:
Back-and-forth cage match that sees multiple failed escape attempts and pinfall attempts. Zoey Stark shows up to assist Trish, turning this into a 2-on-1 handicap match. However, Becky fights back, hitting a Manhandle Slam on Stark then a Manhandle Slam to Trish from the top rope, covering her for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Becky Lynch
After the bout, Zoey Stark tries to explain why she failed but Trish isn’t having it and slaps her, telling Stark to leave her ring. Stark closes the cage door and delivers her finisher, the Z360 to Stratus, taking off her “Thank You Trish” shirt as she exits the cage.
John Cena welcomes the fans in Pittsburgh, saying this is the first time he’s hosted a PLE. Cena praises the opening match and says his job is to make tonight special. As such, he’s going to make himself the special referee for tonight’s match between The Miz and LA Knight.
Naturally, The Miz shows up and criticizes Cena for being a lousy host.
LA Knight vs The Miz:
The Miz doesn’t want this match and takes a powder but LA Knight isn’t letting that happen. Knight runs out after Miz and slugs him, throwing him into the ring. The match gets underway with a good back-and-forth. Cena takes his job seriously, forcing breaks when necessary. This doesn’t go over well with LA Knight who gets in Cena’s face only for The Miz to blindside Knight, gaining control. Things look bleak when Miz hits the Skull-Crushing Finale but LA Knight kicks out. LA fights back, dropping an elbow before hitting Blunt Force Trauma for the hard-fought victory.
Winner: LA Knight
Afterwards, John Cena offers his hand to Knight but LA is reluctant telling Cena he nearly cost him the match. However, Knight relents and Cena raises LA’s hand in victory.
United States Championship Match. Rey Mysterio (Champion) vs Austin Theory:
The Latino World Order walk out with Rey but let him handle the match on his own. Austin attacks Rey immediately but Mysterio quickly recover. Theory shows the same fire and wherewithal that led to two United States Championships. Theory goes for “A-Town Down” but Mysterio counters for the roll-up.
Winner: Rey Mysterio

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Becky Lynch about her big win tonight. NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton interrupts and apologizes for naming Lynch as an NXT Women’s Champion when of course, Lynch wasn’t. Becky tells Stratton to focus on her title defense this Tuesday.
Steel City Street Fight. WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damien Priest):
A wild brawl with weapons galore. The champions have things in control as they brawl all over the arena. However, “Dirty” Dom shows up to help The Judgment Day gain the advantage. The Judgment Day celebrate but it’s a bit too early as Sami and KO show up in Pittsburgh Penguin hockey jerseys, complete with hockey sticks and beat down all three members of the Judgment Day. Dom takes a powder as the action returns to the ring. The challengers regain control, shellacking KO while Sami recovers from Priest planting him through several steel chairs. Finally, Sami rejoins the fray and it’s more mayhem. KO is busted open! Dominik returns to help Priest and Balor out. Owens dishes out some more punishment to Dominik then puts him on a table. KO climbs to the stairwell and hits a swanton on Dominik, breaking the table. Sami sets Balor up for the Helluva Kick but Priest throws a chair at him. Priest sets up Balor for the Rzor’s Edge while Balor goes for the Coup De Grace. However, Zayn escapes. Zayn fights off both men, sending Balor through a table. Priest counters a Helluva Kick but KO hits the Stunner. Helluva Kick to Priest. Cover on Priest but JD McDonagh breaks up the pin. Owens goes after JD and plants him through a table. Rhea Ripley shows up and spears KO through the security barrier. Finn goes after Sami but Zayn escapes. Exploder suplex into the corner. Helluva Kick to Balor. Cover but Dominik blasts Sami with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Cover by Balor and it’s all over.
Winners: Finn Balor and Damien Priest (New WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions)
The Grayson Waller Effect with Special Guest Cody Rhodes.
Grayson Waller starts off by insulting his guest Cody Rhodes and the city of Pittsburgh, noting neither one can finish a story. Cody shows up and congratulates Waller on finishing hip toss class. Rhodes tells him rather than letting things play out as they usually do on talk segments eg. Waller insulting Rhodes and ending up eating a CrossRhodes, he’ll do something else. Cody introduces the newest member of RAW: “Main Event Jey Uso” Cody reveals he used some of his pull to get Jey on RAW. Jey Uso has new theme music and when Waller insults him, superkicks him for his trouble.
Women’s World Championship Match. Rhea Ripley (Champion) vs Raquel Rodriguez:
Rhea makes the mistake of trying to overpower Raquel. Rodriguez takes three standing clotheslines from Ripley and refuses to budge. However, Ripley utilizes some time-tested heel tactics to gain the advantage and nearly takes Rodriguez’ head off with a kick to the head. Rhea dishes out a tremendous amount of punishment but it’s not enough to put Raquel away. Back and forth and it’s anyone’s match until Rhea hits a chop block on Rodriguez and locks in her Cloverleaf. However, Raquel escapes into a rollup for a nearfall. Unfortunately, Raquel’s knee is clearly hurt. That doesn’t stop Raquel from following Rhea outside the ring and pummeling her. Unfortunately, Dominik shows up and distracts Raquel, allowing Ripley to recover and surprise Rodriguez with the Riptide for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
World Heavyweight Championship Match. Seth “Freakin’” Rollins (Champion) vs Shinsuke Nakamura:
Nakamura fights with an intensity not seen in some time, scoring near falls and nearly submitting the champion. Avalanche landslide by Nakamura leads to a near fall. Kinshasa to Rollins’ neck but Nakamura wants to hit the Kinshasa again. Rollins fights back, hitting a Pedigree. Stomp out of nowhere. Seth is slow to cover but it’s enough as he gets the duke.
Winner: Seth Rollins
