Why is Paul Getting an Undisputed Championship Match?
Some fans are still curious as to why Logan Paul is wrestling Roman Reigns at November’s Crown Jewel. After all, how does someone who has wrestled less than a handful of matches get a title shot, let alone at one of the WWE’s biggest events?
The answer seems to be based on the venue; at least as far as Dave Meltzer sees it. Meltzer gave his take on things during a recent episode of the Sunday Night’s Main Event show, explaining that Logan Paul is:
a big deal in Saudi Arabia, he’s a big deal to the Saudi Arabian prince and that’s the whole thing of these shows. Nothing to do with (selling tickets). Tickets in Saudi Arabia mean nothing. It’s not even part of the game. Of course, TV numbers whatever. If he draws younger viewers, that’s good but it’s not a play for TV ratings. It is a play because the prince wants celebrity fights in Saudi Arabia to build the name in the media of Saudi Arabia and Logan Paul will get more of the type of press that Saudi Arabia is looking for than Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins.”

As WrestleLamia noted in our video on sports washing and Saudi Arabia’s partnership with the WWE, critics argue that the Saudi Arabian government uses high-profile events like Crown Jewel to get good publicity for the nation with the goal of deflecting the bad press from its notorious human rights record.
Meltzer reiterated the reason for the Paul vs Reigns match:
That’s what Saudi Arabia is there for. Saudi Arabia is for matches that the prince wants that will get press attention around the world for Saudi Arabia so this is a great match for that.”

Why Logan Paul is Wrestling Roman
Analysis: The Saudi Sports Authority pays the WWE plenty of money so it’s not surprising to see match-ups involving celebrities and WWE Legends rather than the usual line-up from the WWE roster.
Some fans have commented that the shows in Saudi Arabia often seem like they have no bearing on the WWE’s weekly television. While there have been enough title changes and other important segments to disprove this argument, there’s no doubt that the Saudi Arabia shows have a quality all their own.
