Real Reason Rumored Match Didn’t Happen
What happened to Edge vs Balor at The Royal Rumble? Last Saturday’s Royal Rumble featured some epic matches but one rumored match didn’t make the cut. Now, we may know the reason why.
Fans had heard rumors that Edge would wrestle Finn Balor (with Balor possibly wrestling as his “Demon” persona) in a Hell in a Cell Match at the Rumble. Dave Meltzer is now reporting on what happened:
“The reason the at one time talked about Brood Edge vs. Demon Balor Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble didn’t happen is because Edge was filming a television show until this past week and thus couldn’t do the WWE television to build up the match. He was filming “Percy Jackson and The Olympian,” a Disney + series where he will play Ares, the Greek God of War.”

Edge made a surprise entrance into the Rumble, renewing his feud with The Judgment Day. In addition, Beth Phoenix returned at The Royal Rumble, taking out The Judgment Day’s Rhea Ripley when she jumped Edge during “The Rated-R Superstar’s” brawl with Damien Priest and Finn Balor.
“The Glamazon” also appeared on this week’s RAW, lending a helping hand to her husband when Ripley interfered again.
Rumor has it that Beth and Edge will team up for a mixed-tag match against The Judgment Day at Elimination Chamber. Edge and Balor would then battle at WrestleMania XXXIX in the previously-planned Hell in a Cell Match.
