Is Vince Asking Too Much for the WWE?

Is There a Real Reason for the WWE’s Alleged High Asking Price?

Is Vince McMahon asking too much for the WWE? Dave Meltzer seems to think so and recently commented on Wrestling Observer Radio that the company is roughly worth around $6.5 billion but rumor has it that Mr. McMahon wants $9 billion.

If this is true, it could explain why interest in buying the company may have cooled off. Meltzer even commented that the WWE’s stock has fallen a bit, likely due to its asking price being too high. (H/T Ringside News)

If McMahon’s asking price is $9 billion and viewed as too high (two stories that have yet to be confirmed), is this an intentional effort to keep the company from being sold?

As some fans and pundits have speculated, Vince’s return may have been done under a false pretext. McMahon said he returned to negotiate a sale or TV rights deal. What if he has no intention to sell the WWE?

On the other hand, what if Vince is pricing the WWE so high? Could this be a clever move by Vinnie Mac to outprice buyers other than those who feel money is no object? If so, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) seems like a good candidate.

Vince Asking Too Much for the WWE?

Analysis: Keep in mind that the $9 billion asking price could be a starting point. It’s rare that any seller starts off with the bare minimum they’ll take.

Don’t read too much into any story about the WWE’s potential sale. Any negotiations are being handled in confidence and any “news” that surfaces is likely an intentional leak. The likely reason is to facilitate a business advantage by the seller or prospective buyer.

[…] As I speculated, Mr. McMahon may be intentionally asking too much for the WWE. The reason would be to outprice other bidders and sell the WWE to someone with deep pockets. Said buyer would also be someone willing to pay a premium price despite it being overvalued. […]
