AEW President Slams WWE’s Saudi Show
It’s time for some inter-promotional shade as AEW President Tony Khan mocks Crown Jewel, the WWE’s premium live event taking place in Saudi Arabia this November. Khan spoke with News 12 recently to promote AEW’s Grand Slam special event and talked about what he thinks is the real crown jewel of wrestling:
“You’re right. We’re running a lot of great shows around the Northeast. It’s so many great wrestling markets in one geographic region. I’ll say it [it’s] the crown jewel of wrestling markets…the real crown jewel of wrestling markets, not some BS overseas in Saudi Arabia. The real crown jewel, New York City, is where you want to be.”

Tony Khan Mocks Crown Jewel
Analysis: You may recall that AEW has been trying to break into the New York City market for some time and finally succeeded with 2021’s wildly successful Grand Slam event at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
New York City (particularly Madison Square Garden) was traditionally a WWE stronghold but the WWE began running fewer shows in the Big Apple until AEW launched. While AEW hasn’t been able to run a show in the Garden, its Grand Slam events show that the promotion has plenty of fans in New York City.
