Tony Khan Discusses ROH TV Program

“We’ll Have Great News Soon About Ring of Honor Weekly Shows”

Potentially great news for Ring of Honor (ROH) fans as Tony Khan discusses an ROH TV program and when fans might see it finally happen.

AEW President Tony Khan bought ROH in 2022, leading to fans wondering whether he acquired it for its tape library or to run it as a promotion. The ROH tape library is valuable because so many current AEW wrestlers (not to mention current WWE Superstars) competed in ROH. However, ROH also has a rich history and a fanbase that could generate income.

As it turned out, Khan decided to continue operating ROH but on a limited basis, airing quarterly pay-per-views and featuring ROH’s champions on AEW TV. He’s repeatedly talked about getting ROH on TV as a weekly program but so far, details have been nebulous.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso, Khan provided some good news for ROH fans:

“We’ll have great news soon about Ring of Honor weekly shows. The success of Death Before Dishonor on pay-per-view has ensured there will be more Ring of Honor pay-per-views. Our goal is to have one more great pay-per-view for Ring of Honor in 2022 and then follow that up with a weekly show in 2023.”

It’s worth mentioning that ROH is a separate entity from AEW and that Tony Khan owns ROH (as opposed to AEW, which is owned by his father). This raises several questions including how Warner Brothers Discovery would feel about ROH if it aired on a rival station or was seen as affecting Tony Khan’s efforts to run AEW.

Tony Khan Discusses ROH TV Program

Analysis: One of the biggest upsides to an ROH TV series is that it would give AEW’s underutilized wrestlers a venue to perform on besides AEW Dark and Elevation. Khan would likely try and build synergy between AEW and ROH, bringing ROH fans to AEW and vice versa, much as the WWE is trying to do with its main roster programs and NXT.

Perhaps the biggest question concerning an ROH TV series is whether wrestling fans will support another hour (or two hours) of weekly TV without it diminishing AEW’s audience.
