Theory Still Getting Big Push?

Has Theory’s Push Ended with Vince McMahon’s Exit?

Is Theory still getting a big push? Fans of the youngest United States Champion in WWE history have wondered whether Vince McMahon’s retirement would lead to Theory’s push ending.

The end of the Vince McMahon Era and the rise of the Triple H Era has shaken up the booking landscape, leading to questions about the future pushes of wrestlers who were Vince’s favorites.

One such wrestler is Austin Theory, who has enjoyed a huge push since debuting on the main roster. Does Triple H have different plans for Mr. Money in the Bank?

Dolph Ziggler has made life difficult for Theory over the last several weeks, interfering in Theory’s matches and costing him wins. At one point it appeared he would start a program with Ziggler but this seemed to end last week when Theory beat Dolph during the 15 August RAW’s main event.

With Ziggler apparently out of the picture, what does this mean for Theory?

Theory Still Getting Big Push

According to Dave Meltzer, Theory will continue getting pushed as he’s seen as a wrestler with lots of potential.

“Dolph Ziggler is kind of the odd man out because they were gonna run with Ziggler and Theory at all the (house) shows to give Theory… the idea is to give Theory opponents that will give him experience, because Theory is the one that they really want to groom, and it appears Levesque hasn’t done anything to change that. They like the guy – good size, good look, very good athlete, just needs ring work.”

H/T Ringside News

While the original plan seemed to be Theory feuding with Dolph Ziggler, it looks like A-Town will be feuding with Johnny Gargano. Gargano returned to the WWE on the 22 August RAW with Theory interrupting him.

The WWE played up Theory’s time in NXT alongside Johnny Gargano in the faction The Way. Theory insulted “Johnny Wrestling,” insinuating that he (Theory) had already accomplished everything Gargano set out to do. Naturally, this didn’t go over well and Gargano superkicked him.

Analysis: I would argue that it remains to be seen what happens with Theory’s career. Johnny Gargano benefits more from a program than Theory benefits from one against him.

If the WWE wants Theory to get more in-ring experience, Gargano foots the bill, but so do a variety of bigger names.

There’s no denying that Theory is getting a good push for someone who has only been on the main roster for about a year (not counting his run in 2020).

His failure to successfully cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at SummerSlam should not be taken as a sign that his push is over. Theory is too young to win the world championship when the WWE seems intent on continuing Roman Reigns’ run through WrestleMania XXXIX.

A-Town is a skilled performer whose lack of size (height-wise) is made up for by his charisma and ability to enrage fans. He’s not ready for the main event but he should be in the upper card as the WWE could benefit from a break-out star who has kept pace with his push and fulfilled his end of things.
