NXT Superstar Candice LeRae is now a free agent, leading to speculation as to what’s next for the former NXT Tag Team Champion and wife of Johnny Gargano. Wrestling News’ Andrew Ravens is reporting:
Candice LeRae is officially a free agent as her contract with WWE has expired. LeRae was added to the alumni section of WWE.com this morning.

In addition, Ravens noted that “Fightful Select confirmed with WWE sources that she is a free agent.” At one point there was speculation that the WWE might add time to her contract since she took time off when she became pregnant. Apparently that’s not the case which means LeRae could be wrestling again soon.
Candice LeRae has been competing in the squared circle since 2002 when she began performing in the Empire Wrestling Federation. Subsequent work included time in Pro Wrestling Guerilla and DDT-Wrestling as well as appearances at indie shows. LeRae debuted for the WWE in 2017 when she began appearing in NXT. During her time in NXT, LeRae competed in the first Women’s WarGames Match, participated at WrestleMania XXXV’s WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, and served as a member of Team NXT at the 2019 Survivor Series.
The 36-year-old star married Johnny Gargano in 2016 and the couple celebrated the birth of their first child earlier this year. Whether LeRae decides to return to wrestling remains unknown as does the wrestling status of her husband. Some fans believe Johnny is headed to AEW and could show up as the wild card entry in the Owen Hart Cup Men’s Tournament.If Gargano does head to AEW, there’s reason to believe LeRae might join him there if she still wants to wrestle.
