Analysis: Two Schools of Thought
Should the WWE roster be worried about a Vince comeback? The story that Vince McMahon wants back in as WWE Executive Chairman is making waves. WWE stock has gone up, with analysts believing it’s due to the perception the company could be up for sale.
However, what about the WWE roster? Should the wrestlers who have seen significant pushes since McMahon’s retirement be worried? I’m talking about wrestlers such as Karrion Kross, Dexter Lumis, Johnny Gargano, LA Knight, Dakota Kai, and many others.
Consider how many ex-WWE Superstars have come back. Many of them couldn’t get the time of day from Vinnie Mac, let alone a push (which is why they were released). If Vince comes back, should wrestlers expect a quick exit?
Also, should fans who have been enjoying long-term storylines and more logic be ready to go back to the days when Vince abandoned storylines on a whim?
I would argue that if Vince does return to power, there won’t be any short-term changes as McMahon will probably be intent on solidifying his power. He will likely let Triple H and Shawn Michaels have fun while he prepares to gain absolute control.
This of course is based on the uncertainty of McMahon regaining control (and keeping it). It’s also based on whether Vince is using the idea of coming back to sell the WWE as a pretext for power or whether he actually intends to sell it.
If Vince is using this as a pretext, expect Vince to work his “magic” and take over creative. You can also expect to see many wrestlers released and a return to doing things the right way i.e. Vince’s way.
Should WWE Roster Be Worried About a Vince Comeback?
While the roster may be concerned, I believe that Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Nick Khan have more reasons to be concerned. If Vince McMahon regains control, expect to see the first two quietly retire. As for Khan, his future depends on whether McMahon feels the big-money deals he’s pulled in are worth any perceived aggravation he brings.
