Time for the latest rumors on a Rock return at WrestleMania XL. Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility during a Wrestling Observer Radio:
“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of Gunther or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”

The WWE would likely love to have The Rock work WrestleMania. The Rock is a huge draw and a Rock appearance would bring in mainstream publicity. Furthermore, this would allow the WWE to book its dream match between him and Roman Reigns. At the same time, the WWE can feed “The People’s Champion” to “The Tribal Chief.”

WrestleLamia hopes the WWE doesn’t continue booking Roman Reigns in god mode so they can keep him undefeated until he faces The Rock. Roman hasn’t put over any opponents yet. In fact, he’s been criticized for burying the majority of the people he defeats.
At what point should the WWE ask whether The Rock is actually interested in returning to the WWE or whether he’s merely giving them a polite “maybe.”
If The Rock keeps missing WrestleMania, the saying “The Rock is working at ‘Mania” may join “the check is in the mail” and “that’s just a cold sore” in favorite sayings.
