Real Reason Paige Signed with AEW

What Are Saraya’s Reason(s) for Becoming All Elite?

Wondering about the real reason why Paige signed with AEW? Let’s take a look at what happened at Grand Slam and what could be next for Saraya (aka former WWE Superstar Paige).

In case you missed the 21 September special episode of Dynamite, Saraya appeared following AEW Interim Women’s Champion Toni Storm’s win in a Four-Way Match against Dr. Britt Baker, Serena Deeb, and Athena.

The heels (along with Baker’s brawler buddy Jamie Hayter) beat down Storm and Athena until Saraya showed up, bailing out of the ring. The fans went bananas welcoming Saraya to the Arthur Ashe Stadium, leading to the question, what’s next for Saraya?

Real Reason Paige Signed with AEW

Analysis: Although Saraya has not commented on her decision to sign with AEW, WrestleLamia believes the main reason is that AEW offered her something substantial to do. Money does not seem to be an issue as Saraya previously said she would consider AEW if the money is right. At the same time, Triple H appears to be willing to break out the checkbook to sign the right Superstars.

In Saraya’s case, the WWE did nothing with her for several years following her injury. While she initially worked as an authority figure and later as a manager for The Kabuki Warriors, Saraya disappeared from WWE TV. In fact, her only TV appearance was on FS1’s wrestling commentary show WWE Backstage (other than a Skype appearance on SmackDown in 2020 during the pandemic).

While the WWE had a no-contact policy for Saraya in order to protect her from being accidentally injured, the company’s decision not to utilize her seems to have frustrated her. It’s unknown if Triple H made any overtures to Saraya after he took over the WWE’s creative department and if he did, what plans he had for her.

Ultimately, AEW has plans for Saraya. The big question is whether these plans involve her wrestling. Saraya had to retire from the ring after suffering what appeared to be a career-ending neck injury. However, she has discussed mounting a comeback for some time, occasionally updating fans that she is training in an attempt to be ring-ready. If Saraya is cleared by AEW’s doctors, there is already one wrestler who seems ready to rumble.

Former AEW Women’s Champion, Dr. Britt Baker is a big fan of Saraya and told Sportskeeda Wrestling:

“I’m a huge fan of Paige. I love her. I love her mom. I’ve wrestled her mom before actually. But she’s such an inspirational female. That girl has gone through it all and she’s still, pardon my swearing, but she’s such a bad b***h and she has that everything rolls off your back energy,”

It’s obvious that Saraya signed with AEW because the promotion offered her a chance to get involved on TV. Whether this includes competing in the ring is something Saraya and AEW’s doctors will have to determine. However, WrestleTalk’s Andy Datson provided some good reasons why Saraya is in AEW to wrestle, commenting on her elaborate entrance and noting:

she’s been added to the roster page (roster Paige), and she’s got a win/loss record. Why would someone who isn’t going to wrestle need a win/loss record?
