Both Women Give Main Reason They’re No Longer Friends

What’s the real reason behind the Charlotte/Becky heat? Equally important, is there actual heat between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch?

While wrestling fans know that promoters and wrestlers are more than willing to fool them to add heat to a match and/or feud, both Lynch and Flair continue discussing how they had a falling out and are no longer close.

Things seemed to blow up around last year’s Survivor Series when the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champions clashed in an inter-brand match.

Before the match, Lynch (SmackDown Women’s Champion at the time) was supposed to exchange her title for Charlotte Flair’s RAW Women’s Championship (each Superstar had been drafted to opposite brands, which necessitated an exchange of belts).

The Real Reason Behind Charlotte/Becky Heat

During the segment, Flair dropped the title, forcing Lynch to pick it up and look bad. This reportedly led to a backstage brouhaha. Some believed the title belt blow-up was a work but Lynch told Ariel Helwani that:

“We don’t like each other, we used to. So I’m sure she would give you a different side and I’ll give you my side, is that, my star was rising, we were best friends and it all worked, when she was on top and I was below and then we could all see the way things were going in 2019.”

Charlotte Confirms a Rift

“The Queen’s” recent appearance on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions seems to confirm the rumors of a rift between Flair and Lynch:

“You have two women that want to be the best. Like, there’s no other way to put it. I want to be the best, she wants to be the best. And, natural courses of life, she got married, had a baby. I met Manny (Andrade El Idolo) on the road, maybe we were each other’s crushes at one point. But now it’s she wants to be the best, I want to be the best. You have two alphas who don’t see eye to eye,”

Flair discussed the aforementioned incident where she was accused of dropping the women’s championship belt on purpose in order to make Lynch look bad:

“I wish I could sit here and tell you, I did it on purpose but if people need me to be that bad guy, I’ll be that bad guy. Things happen on-screen. I would never go on a scripted television show and purposely do something on purpose,”

Hope for a Reconciliation

Lynch seems to think there’s hope for an eventual reconciliation but it would take a lot of work and a lot of dialogue. Lynch told Bleacher Report’s, Graham Matthews:

I think there would be a lot that would need to be talked about and a lot that would need to be discussed,” said Lynch. “Honestly, I don’t think we can be [friends] in this business anymore. (…) I don’t know that it can be repaired while we’re both still wrestling.”

During a chat with Ariel Helwani, Flair said she hopes the friendship can be mended:

“Yeah [about becoming friends with Lynch again]. Absolutely. Seeing her as a mother, I’m so happy.”

The wrestling world can make for some volatile situations, particularly when it comes to wrestlers wanting to maintain their spot at the top. Throw in ego and a competitive nature and it’s easy to see how Lynch and Flair may really be at odds. They certainly wouldn’t be the first friends to quarrel due to the grappling game’s tense environment.

Do you think Charlotte and Lynch are really at odds? If so, will they ever reconcile? Let us know in the comments below.
