Is There a Method to the WWE’s Apparent Madness?
What’s the real reason for Omos vs Lesnar/Bray vs Bobby at WrestleMania? Fans were confident they’d get a rematch between Lashley and Lesnar following the controversial finish to their match at Elimination Chamber.
Indeed, when MVP challenged Lesnar to fight Omos at WrestleMania, many suspected this was a swerve to set up Lesnar vs Lashley, the idea being that Lashley would rejoin The Hurt Business and set out to destroy Lesnar.
However, that no longer seems to be the case as the WWE pushed Omos vs Lesnar and Wyatt vs Lashley on the 27 February RAW. While both matches have a certain appeal, neither seems like a strong candidate for WrestleMania.
Rumor has it that the WWE planned for Brock Lesnar to take on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania. Those plans fell through but as discussed in our previous news video, Omos was not the first choice to serve as a backup for Austin.
A report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio suggests that the WWE made some last-minute changes to WrestleMania’s card, resulting in the current matches for Brock and Bobby:
“I can’t say that was due to Vince, but I can say that was a change. Most of this WrestleMania card, most of this WrestleMania card was planned out…they actually planned out most of this card further in advance than usual, which is Paul Levesque’s credit probably.”

Meltzer noted that the WWE had many matches planned for by the fall and December. Nonetheless, the Lesnar match was changed. There were rumors that “The Beast” would wrestle Gunther at ‘Mania but those were dismissed by the start of 2023.
Two Booking Blunders
So, what happened? Is the WWE saving the Brock vs Bobby rematch for a show in Saudi Arabia or SummerSlam? Is the WWE saving Brock vs Gunther for SummerSlam?
The WWE recognizes the value in a Lesnar vs Gunther match and you’ve likely heard how the WWE plans to push “The General” even more. It makes sense to save Lesnar vs Gunther until the Intercontinental Champion is built up further.
As for Wyatt vs Lashley, it seems like a throwaway match. Worse, Wyatt just finished a program with LA Knight, hardly a main eventer. Why is the WWE eager to risk Lashley’s main event status against Wyatt? Chances are, Lashley will look bad coming out of this match.
The obvious clash in styles (both in-ring and in wrestling personas) should raise a red flag. Further, what does Lashley have to gain from beating Wyatt? If he loses to Wyatt, what then?
Ultimately, Omos vs Brock and Wyatt vs Lashley don’t seem like WrestleMania-quality matches. These two matches are big blunders and Triple H will need to pull a rabbit out of his hat to fix them.
