“Switchblade” Signs with AEW Instead of WWE
Time for a look at Jay White’s surprise signing with AEW. AEW fans were surprised to see White show up on the 4 April episode of Dynamite. However, they weren’t the only people surprised by Jay White signing with the promotion. According to Dave Meltzer, so was the WWE:
“Well, Jay White is a great wrestler, a great physiological wrestler…WWE was after him. It was his choice between the two sides, and this was the side he chose. It’s a feather in the cap of AEW and Tony Khan. He got the guy. That’s a good thing for AEW. Now they have to use him the right way,”

There were multiple reports that the WWE was very interested in signing White so what happened? Fightful’s William Washington tweeted:
White hasn’t discussed his reasoning but WrestleLamia will continue following this story. White did appear in AEW in 2022 during the build-up to the AEW/New Japan collaboration Forbidden Door.
Perhaps he enjoyed working with the company. It’s also possible he heard that Vince McMahon was becoming more involved in the WWE and wasn’t sure how he would fare in the promotion. This is speculation but as WrestleLamia likes to point out, speculation fascinates fans of the squared circle.
