In-Ring Confrontation Leads to Speculation
Is William Regal exiting AEW? Regal’s recent betrayal of now-former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley led to an in-ring confrontation between Mox and his Lordship where Moxley told Regal to leave and never come back.
William Regal had a close relationship with Triple H in NXT, a situation which has led to fans wondering whether Regal would want to return to the WWE and help out the promotion’s younger talent.
While Moxley’s threat seemingly opened the door for Regal to exit AEW and head back to the WWE (where it’s likely Triple H would greet him with open arms), that apparently isn’t the case.
Cageside Seats’ Randall Ortman recently noted that Bryan Alvarez “stated that Regal is ‘gonna be back’ and ‘this was not him leaving AEW.’” (H/T Cageside Seats)
Is William Regal Exiting AEW?
While WrestleLamia was disappointed with MJF not showing up on the 23 November Dynamite, AEW did a good job letting the drama play out between Moxley and Regal.
Inserting Bryan Danielson into the mix was an interesting twist as “The American Dragon” begged Moxley not to attack Regal, pointing out how Regal shared his own battles with personal demons to help Bryan understand his own father’s problems.
This led to Moxley giving Regal a chance to exit the ring and never come back. As AEW’s announcers pointed out, Regal’s history of neck problems and two brain bleeds makes Regal the wrestling equivalent of Humpty Dumpty.
What’s Next for Mox and His Lordship?
Fans are also curious about Moxley’s situation as the three-time AEW World Champion was supposed to take six weeks off following his All Out loss to CM Punk.
Things changed after Punk’s injury and the other alleged antics following Punk’s media scrum but now that the title is off Mox, might he take a sabbatical as previously planned? If so, how will AEW book his absence?
