Talk that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund Mulling Purchase
Is the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund buying the WWE? The Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) name came up as a potential buyer for the WWE. The PIF has deep pockets so it has the funds to buy it. However, will it put a bid in if the WWE goes up for sale?
As previously reported, Vince McMahon’s return was supposedly tied to his wish to possibly sell the WWE. Prospective buyers include NBC, FOX, and Disney, but a new name has come up.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is emerging as a possible bidder for WWE if the promotion puts itself up for sale, sources told Front Office Sports. PIF controls about $620 billion in assets. Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment company could be the next possible step in its global sports expansion.

You may have heard of Saudi Arabia’s LIV Golf, its two-billion-dollar project to compete with professional golf’s PGA Tour. LIV Golf has been criticized as “sports washing,” an attempt by the Saudi Arabian government to buy legitimacy in light of its alleged human rights abuses.
The WWE gets $100 million annually from Saudi Arabia to hold two wrestling events in their nation, money which is significant to the WWE’s revenue, and which has been criticized as another example of sports washing.
The Front Office Sports article also mentioned Amazon, Liberty Media, Endeavor, and talent agency CAA as potential buyers.
Is Saudi Arabia Fund Buying WWE?
Analysis: The PIF could easily outbid other buyers, making it an attractive suitor. However, would there be any backlash over the sports washing issue? If so, could it lead to difficulties in finding someone to broadcast WWE shows?
