Is Cody Rhodes a Draw?

Interesting Reports on Ticket Sales and Merchandise Numbers

Is Cody Rhodes a draw? One would hope so given his main event spot at WrestleMania, especially since Sami Zayn is on fire and could conceivably main-event WrestleMania.

Thankfully, there’s evidence that Cody Rhodes is a major force in the WWE in terms of merchandise and ticket sales. Dave Meltzer recently noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that:

“He got that great reaction at Mania. It’s all been successful. You know we talk about nobody being a draw, blah, blah. It’s the brand that draws. Well, he’s a draw. I mean Sami [Zayn] is a draw, obviously these SmackDown ratings, but Cody is a draw. The weekend at house shows in Columbus and Pensacola. The advances were the same, 2000 – 2500 that they do everywhere else. It was lower than usual. They weren’t bad….they were normal advances. Cody wins the Rumble, and then they announce that Cody is working those two shows, and they did the all-time record gates in both cities – Columbus and Pensacola,”

Meltzer observed that the WWE’s house shows drew around 6,000 fans, an unusually huge number for live events. He also mentioned that Cody’s merchandise was the top seller at the Royal Rumble.

Is Cody Rhodes a Draw?

“The American Nightmare” is wildly popular but can he sustain his popularity? If he can, the WWE could have the megastar babyface it’s been looking for. If he can’t, the WWE may have to think about whether to put the Undisputed Championship on him.

Of course, this is based on the idea that Roman Reigns will leave Elimination Chamber with the Undisputed Championship. Should Sami Zayn win the title, what would that mean for WrestleMania? Would the WWE pit its two biggest babyfaces against each other and risk a fan backlash against one?
