This is Punk’s first World Title win since 2011.
For the first time since 2013, CM Punk is World Champion.
Last night’s Double or Nothing PPV was main evented by Adam Page defending the AEW World Title against Punk, and it was Punk who was able to secure the victory, and win the AEW World Title for the first time.
The match finish came following a ref bump. With the referee down, Page was about to use the AEW World Title as a weapon, but a conflicted Page, decided not to go through with using the belt. Page would go for the Buckshot Lariat instead, but Punk caught Page with the GTS to get the victory.
After the PPV went off the air, Punk delivered a passionate promo, where he stated that he deserves to be World Champion.
In the post PPV media scrum, Punk would thank the AEW locker room. The World Champion stated:
“Everybody in the back, everybody behind the camera – whether they’re making money or spending money – they’re the reason I’m here,” CM Punk said. “I appreciate every single one of you. This s–t is hard, but everything worth it in life is hard. Thank you, Las Vegas. This is our first million-dollar house [gate], this is the biggest crowd we’ve ever had in an indoor arena, and I promise you ain’t seen nothing yet! Thank you Las Vegas, let’s f—ing go!”
