Why “The Wizard’s” Eighth World Title Win is Momentous
What is Chris Jericho’s major milestone and why should fans care? First things first, congratulations to Chris Jericho on capturing the Ring of Honor (ROH) World Championship at Grand Slam Night One.
The leader of The Jericho Appreciation Society’s victory makes him the first wrestler to hold the WWE, WCW, World Heavyweight (WWE version), AEW World Heavyweight, and ROH World Championships. While Jericho’s WCW World title win happened during the Invasion angle (after WCW was bought out by the WWF), it’s still an impressive feat.
Factor in Jericho being the first ever Undisputed Champion in the WWE as well as AEW’s inaugural World Champion and he’s distinguished himself many times.
Chris Jericho’s Major Milestone
Despite his win over Claudio, some fans and critics blasted Jericho for the underhanded tactics he used to defeat wrestling’s “Swiss Superman.” For example, Jericho used ROH Hall of Famer Cary Silkin as a human shield during the match and later delivered a low blow to Castagnoli when referee Aubrey Edwards’ back was turned.
Jericho may have thrown ROH’s “Code of Honor” out the window when he won the match but when has “The Wizard” cared about how he gets to the winner’s circle? After all, “The Wizard’s ” win over Claudio Castagnoli proved that a sports entertainer will always beat a professional wrestler.
