Rumor WWE Wants “Stone Cold” to Face “The Tribal Chief”
Is Austin vs Reigns happening at WrestleMania? That’s the report coming from Fightful Select. With continued doubts whether The Rock will face Roman, it appears this could be the WWE’s “Plan B.”
Let’s take a look at Fightful’s report:
Fightful Select has learned that a pitch was made internally for a “huge opponent” for Stone Cold Steve Austin, which Fightful Select was told was Roman Reigns. We’re told at the very least, Austin’s camp was approached with the possibility of it happening, which was said to have been for “enormous” money.

Apparently the idea of “Stone Cold” vs Roman isn’t new. Fightful noted that:
In the Summer of 2022, Fightful reported that Austin was approached with a deal that wasn’t as appealing from a financial standpoint. Those that we spoke to in WWE claimed they hadn’t heard back on whether the more recent offer was accepted or not, and another source indicated that another “big name” was offered to Austin in the months prior.

Is The Rock Unable to Wrestle Roman?
Is The Rock unable to wrestle Roman Reigns? If so, is it because he doesn’t have time to get into shape or due to a busy schedule?
Some fans and pundits have scoffed at the idea that The Rock can’t get into shape for a WrestleMania match. After all, The Rock looks bigger than he did when he wrestled. While that is true, there is a difference between physical shape and “in-ring” shape.
It’s unlikely “The People’s Champion” would want to wrestle unless he knew he could put on a decent match. It’s also unknown if he has the time to train for a return to the ring.
Likewise, it’s unknown if The Rock has the time for wrestling at “The Showcase of the Immortals.” While the WWE doesn’t need The Rock to show up on TV often, there would have to be a certain amount of appearances (both taped and in person). With The Rock launching the XFL, he will be busy. There is also his hectic Hollywood schedule.
As WrestleLamia and countless others have suggested, the talk of The Rock being unable to wrestle could be a smokescreen. It’s also possible this Austin vs Roman story is a smokescreen to hide the surprise of The Rock fighting Roman.
Austin vs Reigns at WrestleMania?
Analysis: An Austin vs Reigns match could be big. However, given the WWE’s push of Roman Reigns, what suspense is there to “Stone Cold” beating Roman for a title? That is the same problem the WWE has with any Rock vs Roman match.
Ideally, the WWE should consider taking the belt off Reigns and making him a special attraction so dream matches like this have a sense of suspense about them. While Austin may be willing to lay down to Reigns for a big payday, the storyline of Roman rolling over everyone in WWE history is tiresome.
