What Were AEW’s Post-All Out Booking Plans for CM Punk?
Wondering where things would have gone for CM Punk if it wasn’t for that little incident after the All Out post-media scrum that led to the suspension of CM Punk, Ace Steel, and The Elite’s Kenny Omega and Young Bucks?
If the rumors are true, AEW is going to buy out his contract (whether or not Punk sues AEW is another matter. It’s unlikely AEW would pay him off without some sort of settlement prohibiting future lawsuits, but stranger things have happened).
However, what if the Punk incident hadn’t happened? Let’s take things further and add that what would have happened if Punk hadn’t injured himself at All Out?
Dave Meltzer reports in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW had precise plans for what was next for Punk following his AEW World Heavyweight Championship win over Jon Moxley:
the hope was to revive Punk vs. MJF and have the classic promo battles.
H/T 31 October 2022 Wrestling Observer Newsletter
While Punk had decisively defeated MJF in their Dog Collar Match at AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view, there was still lots of life left in their feud and Punk’s status as AEW World champ could have added plenty a new dimension to a Punk vs MJF storyline.
AEW’s Punk Plans After All Out
For now, fans will have to wait and see what’s next for Punk. In the meantime, MJF is booked to challenge Jon Moxley for the world strap at Full Gear, with fans debating whether MJF’s apparent face turn is true or just a façade designed to gain an edge over Mox.
