Triple H Era Starts Off Strong

The WWE Universe has spoken as the 1 August RAW wrecks the ratings, pulling in huge numbers for what is believed to be the first show overseen entirely by Triple H.

Showbuzz Daily reports that RAW drew excellent numbers, both in the number of viewers and that ever-important 18-49 demographic.

Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston tweeted about RAW’s ratings bonanza:

Ringside News’ H. Jenkins compared this week’s ratings with the last few weeks’ ratings.

the August 1st episode of WWE RAW brought in an overnight average of 2.23 million viewers, with a .61 in the 18 to 49 demographic. The July 25th episode of WWE RAW brought in an overnight average of 1,901,000 viewers, with a .50 in the 18 to 49 demographic. This was Triple H’s first night as head of WWE creative, but it was still mostly a Vince McMahon show.

While it’s likely fans tuned in after a strong SummerSlam, there’s no denying these are some of the best numbers RAW has had in a long time. Indeed, Dave Meltzer noted at Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online that:

A combination of a number of factors led to Raw last night doing its highest viewership numbers since the start of the pandemic, averaging 2,230,000 viewers and drawing a 0.61 rating in 18-49.

There is currently a tremendous amount of goodwill for Triple H (Something WrestleLamia has noted here at our website and in our videos.

How long this goodwill lasts depends on whether Triple H can continue booking the WWE this strongly.

As Vince McMahon showed over the last decade, anyone can book a show well for one or two weeks.

The key is doing so weekly and creating a logical world with continuity that doesn’t erase previous storylines without making sense.

Another challenge will be how Triple H deals with the fall programming as new episodes of favorite series return (including Monday Night Football).

Although the WWE has never been able to compete well against Monday Night Football, Triple H may be able to build RAW up strongly enough that it won’t lose a sizeable share of its audience.

What do you think of these ratings? Can Triple H sustain them? Let us know in the comments below.
